These pages were designed a book that sadly never reached publication. Apparently, there’s not a significant market for a book exclusively about making classic sandwiches from scratch. Right…and how many sandwiches do humans eat each year? 50 billion? Yes, I can see why no one would buy such a book.

For the redesign of the cover for Fish on a First-Name Basis, we tried a “tabloid” approach, looking to mimic what you might see in a grocery store checkout aisle. Fun, but informative…and perhaps a little silly. Perhaps a lot.

For the box we picked three of our favorite dishes (pancakes, a Greek wrap, and lasagna) and let them do the selling. Job done.

We worked closely with young chef Reed Alexander to create a series of cards that fit both his tastes and personality: fun, fresh, and full of tasty tidbits.

In additions to illustrations, we also designed and created the layouts for Fish on a First-Name Basis. The 250 page book featured twenty chapters, dozens of fish and shellfish, and hundreds of fishy facts, photos, and recipes.

For each chapter of Fish on a First-Name Basis, we created a special opening illustration that helped sell the concept of each topic. Salmon are wild, crab like to fight, cod make good fish sticks, etc.

For the cookbook, Fish on a First-Name Basis, we created over 150 illustrations featuring various fish, shellfish, and other aquatic edibles.
Every Day with Rachel Ray, 2010
“A Fish Hater’s Guide to Loving Fish,” written by Rob DeBorde, as featured in the April 2010 issue of Every Day with Rachael Ray. A fun read and a solid intro to fish for anyone afraid to get their feet wet.
